What is holistic medicine?
The term holistic medicine is basically used to refer to all types of unconventional, non-mainstream medicinal practices. Other commonly used terms are alternative medicine, integrated medicine or natural medicine.
Have you ever taken vitamin C when you felt a cold coming on? Have you ever sipped chamomile tea to ease an upset stomach? Have you ever had a massage or been to a chiropractor? If so, you have already had some experience with holistic health practices.
Many patients and health care providers use alternative therapies along with traditional medical treatments - to complement them. Together complementary and alternative medicine is known as CAM. The CAM disciplines tend to treat the patient as a whole, rather than a specific ailment, recognizing the link between the physical and mental well being in maintaining health. Most holistic therapies are preventative in nature. These disciplines work to prevent health problems before they occur rather than respond to symptoms after a problem arises.
Many of the complementary alternative medicines are based on the tradition of eastern medicine. These ancient healing arts have been practiced for over 5,000 years. Complementary medicine includes a wide range of disciplines such as: Aromatherapy Acupuncture Reiki Energy therapies Homeopathy Hypnotherapy Massage therapies Naturopathy & nutrition Reflexology, Herbal medicines and more
Although complementary holistic practices by their definition fall outside of orthodox medicine, some medical doctors, nurses and other traditionally trained professionals are accepting and may even train in and practice a complementary discipline. The integration of alternative, complementary practices with our traditional medical treatments is creating an expanding positive change in the field of health care.
So why not give it a chance? You will be surprised at how great you can feel!
RadioIndy Review of "Global Theta" CD
"Global Theta" by Sue Scudder and Donna Aazura is a meditation CD designed to shift your mind into a state of peaceful existence in order to work toward world harmony. Musically the album is, of course, highly ambient. The synths combined with delicate piano lines start the process and maintain it as the soft female voice guides you through the auditory journey. The production quality of this album is good and it certainly achieves the correct mood and is well thought out in its purpose. The album features one track with narration and a second track without. It's a nice option to have, catering to whatever mood you may be in. So, if you are looking to find your way into a peaceful and relaxed state, give this CD a listen.
